How Does Zithromax Work?

Zithromax acts by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thus inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing the growth of susceptible bacteria.

What is Zithromax Used For?

Zithromax is widely used to treat many different types of bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, sexually transmitted diseases, and ear, lung, skin, and throat infections.


This drug can also be used off-label to treat Traveler's diarrhea, Lyme disease, pertussis (whooping cough), and to prevent heart infection in people having dental or other procedures.

Zithromax is commonly manufactured in strenghts of 250mg, 500mg, and 600mg in tablets.


There are also oral suspension forms of 100mg/5mL and 200mg/5mL, and intravenous powder for solution in 500mg
